History About SVO

Abdelrahim Moussa Hassan, founder of SVO, came to Sweden via the UN Refugee Agency UNHCR in 2014. He is originally from the region of Darfur and had been a refugee inside Africa since the Darfur conflict started in 2003. In other words: 11 years. During those 11 years he had volunteered and worked for different aid organisations and learned what kind of aid really makes a difference. What kind of aid is sustainable in the long run. Which kind of aid is empowering refugees in the long run to help themselves?

He became more and more interested in knowing how real empowerment works. Having survived and having been given a second chance in life, Abdelrahim wants to give back. He cares deeply for those who need support, and he knows what kind of efforts can help. Thus, he started Sudan Volunteer Organisaion - together with Adam Fadoul Haroun, a good friend who still lives in the camp of Kounongo.

The "Save Lives in Sudan" campaign was launched on 20230424 by the board of the Swedish Sudanese Association that believed something had to be done in the acute situation that rapidly appeared after the outbreak of war in Sudan on 20230415. The campaign's goal has been since the beginning to provide aid to the healthcare facilities and centers across Sudan so healthcare personnel can continue to cure and save people's lives during the Sudan war. We are an SVO, proud and active partner in this campaign, from the very first day. As of now, we are working together, with multiple organizations actively to implement this campaign’s goals. Within the campaign, we could reach many Sudanese doctors in diaspora, who are specialized in the medical committee. together with top experts in the health field both inside and outside of Sweden, to assess. In the campaign, we could identify 23 hospitals and healthcare centers. 8 of 23 have received Electric support from the campaign. We attempted to purchase and deliver medicines, but we encountered significant logistical challenges in Sudan due to the ongoing war. These challenges included difficulties in ensuring safe delivery and proper storage conditions for medications. But we must continue to attempt this. During this time, we received many requests from various hospitals and health centers for electricity support due to widespread power outages. We all know the importance of electricity for hospitals and health centers to continue their operations and treatments, saving lives and preserving medicines. Many health centers and hospitals were forced to shut down, and numerous medicines were spoiled due to the lack of electricity. Consequently, the campaign decided to direct its support toward providing energy to health facilities, either by purchasing electricity, diesel for generators, or installing solar energy systems. We faced major challenges in securing diesel due to rising costs and theft, so we shifted our focus to solar energy. Thankfully, we were able to form a technical committee made up of young Sudanese engineers and experts in Sweden, specializing in renewable energy production and storage. A solar energy module was designed by this technical committee, which is capable of powering essential parts of health facilities, such as operating rooms, laboratories, pharmacies, or sections of dialysis centers. Campaign Achievements and Projects: Since April 2023, the "Save Lives In Sudan" campaign has been able to achieve
