vision
Our vision is to create a world where every refugee camp is a place of hope and opportunity. we aspire to pave a path for refugees towards a dignified and independent future.
mission
At the core of our work is a steadfast commitment to collaboratively transform refugee camps in Chad and Sudan into thriving, self-sufficient communities.
Community
Our organization unites diverse individuals, from former refugees to local volunteers across Sweden, Chad, and Sudan, all committed to making a tangible difference.
Abdelrahim Moussa Hassan, founder of SVO, came to Sweden via the UN Refugee Agency UNHCR in 2014. He is originally from the region of Darfur and had been a refugee inside Africa since the Darfur conflict started in 2003. In other words: 11 years. During those 11 years he had volunteered and worked for different aid organisations and learned what kind of aid really makes a difference. What kind of aid is sustainable in the long run. Which kind of aid is empowering refugees in the long run to help themselves?
He became more and more interested in knowing how real empowerment works. Having survived and having been given a second chance in life, Abdelrahim wants to give back. He cares deeply for those who need support, and he knows what kind of efforts can help. Thus, he started Sudan Volunteer Organisaion - together with Adam Fadoul Haroun, a good friend who still lives in the camp of Kounongo.
